Congratulations, you've arrived at Exit the Backrooms: Level 0. The first and biggest level of The Backrooms alternate world series tests your alertness.
Have you ever fallen out of reality (noclip) into an endless space with yellow wallpaper, musty carpets, and fluorescent lights?
No exit, no compass, and you're not alone. Play the game and learn the survival rules before darkness falls!
Distrust your eyes. Level 0's non-Euclidean spatial mechanism automatically changes, extends, or repeats rooms when you turn your back.
Turn left after three rooms. Back to the beginning!
Footsteps from ahead. Actually, the entity is behind you!
Space Loop Trap: Three wall stains mean a loop. Break the virtual programming structure by closing your eyes, turning 180 degrees, and walking backward. Some walls are lighter yellow in no-clip zones. Run straight into them - they may be portals to "noclip" through matter to the Exit point.
Panic before seeing the monster will kill you. Manage survival stats using these guidelines:
Flops are too loud. Sanity is eroding. For 5 seconds, stand in a dark corner or dim room to stabilise your heart rate.
Visions: Blood-filled passageways or virtual doors. Avoid entering. This spatial trap leads to a dead end.
Unsafe to hear the distant roar. Shut off your torch and sprint to vents or lockers to hide.
Step 1: Breadcrumb Method: Mark the path
The game runs on a web browser without a minimap, so use your mouse to navigate. Use dirt, turns, or pillar angles as mental coordinates.
Step 2: Listen to sound frequencies
You must wear headphones! Mutated entity (Bacterial/Strider) footsteps sound like metal scraping against walls or sticky footsteps on damp carpets. Prepare to flee when the sound accelerates.
Step 3: Find Glitch Cracks
Level 0's exit often hides behind a graphically malfunctioning lift or a red door that stands out against the yellow background. Jump in immediately when you find it!
How long have you been on Level 0? Others spend an hour exploring the yellow walls, while others leave after 10 minutes. What about you?
